July 28, 2018
Kennedy Theatre

This summer, Theatre Raleigh is proud to partner with the ALS Association to present a benefit reading of Sam Shepard’s Curse of the Starving Class.

The event will take place on July 28th at 6:30pm (reading starts at 7pm), and will be followed by a short talkback with members of the local ALS community, including Dr. Richard Bedlack.

Tickets are $50, and include a pre-show champagne reception in the lobby.

All proceeds will benefit the ALS Association NC Chapter and the Duke ALS Clinic.

Curse of the Starving Class opened in London in April, 1977. The play follows the Tate family as they struggle to control their rundown family farm in rural California – all the while searching for freedom, security and meaning in their lives.

The play’s author, Sam Shepard, was a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, 10-time Obie Award winning writer and director, and Academy Award Nominated actor. Shepard died July 27th, 2017 from complications of ALS.
